Using Positive Self-Affirmations To Boost Confidence and Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem goes hand in hand with having depression and other mental illness. If you are anything like me, I am constantly second guessing myself, and fighting the negative thoughts in the back of my head telling me that I am not good enough. I’m not smart enough. I don’t deserve anything good. A few years ago, I tried positive self-affirmations, and they were a huge boost to my self-esteem and confidence.

It may seem silly at first to talk to yourself, or even at yourself, but self-affirmations really do work to boost your confidence. I’ve experienced it myself. If you repeat these positive self-affirmations to yourself on a routine basis, eventually your subconscious mind begins to believe it. You will feel it. It may take a few weeks or even a month, but you will eventually notice an increase in your confidence and your mood.

Others will notice, too.

I came across positive self-affirmations a few years ago while going through a very ugly divorce. I was feeling useless, and unloveable. I knew that I had to do something to boost my confidence. I read about these daily positive affirmations and decided that it couldn’t hurt to try! I did it, and eventually, I was able to train my brain to believe it.

I’ve read contradicting articles saying that they don’t work, but I, myself, believe that they do. I felt the change. The problem was, I stopped doing it, and my brain stopped believing it. That’s when I realized that thinking positively has to become a daily routine, otherwise your brain may forget.

Push Down The Negative Thoughts.

One thing that I have learned to do is to make a conscious effort to push back my negative thoughts. When I hear those thoughts sneak in telling me that I am ugly and I’m worthless, I have to tell myself to STOP, and bury those negative thoughts under the positive thoughts. You are stronger than those negative thoughts and you can control them if you try hard enough.

Those negative thoughts are always going to be in the back of your mind, you just have to learn to slam the door shut when they try to creep in and eventually they won't show up as often as they do now. Don’t give up that control and let yourself fall victim to negativity.

Make a choice right now to take back your control and not let those negative thoughts creep in. You are the only one who can control them.

Using positive self-affirmations while pushing back those negative thoughts will make a huge difference in your self-esteem and confidence. You are better than what you think you are, and you deserve to feel better about yourself!
